Questi cortometraggi interpretati da un Peter Sellers agli esordi, che in essi veste i panni di un personaggio chiamato Hector Dimwittie, furono girati nel 1957. Pensati per essere abbinati a un lungometraggio principale, i corti - che avrebbero dovuto comporre una serie di almeno dieci titoli - offrirono all'attore la possibilità di esibire il suo talento comico e la sua bravura di trasformista. Di essi si persero le tracce fino agli anni Novanta, quando Robert Farrow li trovò abbandonati negli studios della Park Lane Films e decise di conservarli. Nel 2013 Farrow propose i corti a Paul Cosgrove del Southend Film Festival, dove sono stati proiettati il 1° maggio di quest'anno. La sceneggiatura di due dei tre film è frutto della collaborazione di Lewis Greiffer e Mordecai Richler. Il regista è Leslie Arliss, che aveva diretto The Wicked Lady (1945) con Margaret Lockwood. Si ritiene che Mordecai Richler fosse qui alla sua prima sceneggiatura. Lewis Greifer, prolifico autore televisivo, aveva lavorato a Danger Man e a Doctor Who. I corti sono essenzialmente degli one-man-show, girati in bianco e nero e caratterizzati da un atteggiamento anti-autoritario e vagamente eccentrico nei confronti della Gran Bretagna del dopoguerra. Hanno il gusto delle soap opera pomeridiane dell'epoca, ma con l'aggiunta di sfumature demenziali. Sono tutti variamente divertenti, e in essi Sellers si cimenta in sketch e in caratterizzazioni in puro stile Goon Show che ritroveremo nel corso della sua carriera. A brillare è in particolare Insomnia is Good for You, che svolge al meglio il compito di questi corti concentrandosi sullo straordinario talento di Sellers. La serie rimase incompiuta e l'anno successivo, il 1958, Sellers apparve in tre lungometraggi - The Mouse that Roared, Carlton-Browne of the F.O. e Tom Thumb, avviandosi a diventare uno dei più grandi comici mai apparsi sullo schermo.

These three short films feature Peter Sellers in the very beginnings of his career. Made in 1957 as support to the main feature film, these shorts were primarily a chance for Sellers to show his acting chops and his ability at mimicry and impersonation. He plays a character called Hector Dimwittie throughout each of these films in what was going to be a series of at least 10. Thought lost until the Nineties, the shorts were thrown out of the offices of Park Lane Films, the production company, and kept by Robert Farrow. In 2013 Farrow offered them to Paul Cosgrove, who runs The Southend Film Festival, and they premiered there on May 1^st this year. The two discovered films were co-written by Lewis Greiffer and Mordecai Richler. The Director was Leslie Arliss, a well known writer and director known for The Wicked Lady (1945), starring Margaret Lockwood. Mordecai Richler was thought to be working here on his first script. Lewis Greifer was a prolific writer of British Tv drama working on Danger Man and Doctor Who. The stories of all three shorts are basically one man shows, shot in black and white and taking a slightly quirky anti authoritarian stance against the modern post war life of 1950 Britain. They feel like any Tv tea time soap of the time but with a slightly demented twist to them. They are all funny to various degrees and feature Sellers at his Goon Show best in creating sketches and characters that would reappear throughout his career. The best realised is Insomnia is Good for You doing what these shorts were supposed to do: focus on Sellers amazing comic talent. The series was never finished and the following year, 1958, Sellers appeared in 3 new feature films - The Mouse that Roared, Carlton-Browne of the F.O. and Tom Thumb, all showing off Sellers' talent as he was well on his way to becoming the funniest comic actor that ever lived.
