Between posters, playbills and lobby cards, the archive houses over 40,000 items. More than 4,000 of these are promotional materials produced from the 1920s and on by production houses and film distributors to accompany film releases. The collection, which is constantly being updated, is now consultable online through the Cineteca’s catalogue. To see the originals, stored in the library at Via Azzo Gardino 65/b, an appointment must be made in advance (call +39 051 219 5305 or send an e-mail to cinetecarchiviografica@comune.bologna.it).

The mass of the collection hinges on Italian films made between the end of WWII and the 1980s. This well-defined historical section is joined by 300 French affiches and 2,000 from Switzerland, documents relating to film in Bologna in the early 1900s and a small set of around a hundred Spanish carteles.
