Restoration
With our society dominated by advertising’s idea that the future will be better than the past, it is only recently that a growing number of people have been paying more attention to the history of cinema. They are discovering the extraordinary vitality of the films of the past, and their fresh artistic, aesthetic and commercial values. From this perspective, restoration represents not only the best-possible tool for preserving filmic visions over time, but also a way of relaunching them into a qualitative dialogue with contemporary audiences. In this context, as well as serving as a compass by which institutions like the Cineteca Bologna can orient themselves, film restoration also becomes a true cultural challenge with an incredible ability to move the margins of our gaze.
